Hours after The Washington Post reported that President Donald Trump gave highly classified information about ISIS to Russian officials, Seth Meyers said it felt like the country had reached “peak Trump insanity.”
Meyers recapped the news over the past few days, including Trump blatantly contradicting his White House surrogates and admitting that he considered the FBI’s investigation into his campaign team’s relationship with the Kremlin when he fired Director James Comey.
“Trump just admits to wrongdoing and then dares the rest of us to do something about it,” Meyers said, calling the behavior somewhat disorienting.
He later argued that the president was even more deceitful than President Richard Nixon.
“He’s shameless Nixon,” Meyers added. “Nixon famously said, ‘I am not a crook.’ Trump is basically saying, ‘I am a crook, and there’s nothing you can do about it. In fact, after dinner tonight, I’m having three scoops of ice cream.’”
