The Associated Press is expected to name Julie Pace as Washington bureau chief on Monday, according to sources familiar with the plans.
Pace, who joined the AP in 2007, currently serves as chief White House correspondent and is one of the news organization’s most recognizable faces through regular appearances on TV news shows.
The Washington bureau chief job has long been one of the most influential in the capital given that the AP’s politics and policy coverage runs in newspapers and websites throughout the country.
Pace and an AP spokesperson did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
The AP is expected to also announce other changes in the Washington bureau.
The bureau has not had a permanent chief since November, when Sally Buzbee was promoted to executive editor. Wendy Benjaminson had been serving as acting bureau chief.
